Evening Prayer |
The centrepiece of each of our Sunday gatherings is a talk from the
Bible, relating its truth to the issues of everyday life.
For those who are hard of hearing the church is fitted with a loop
system, whilst for anyone with young children activity bags are available.
Tea and coffee are served after the Family and Memorial Hall services
when there is an opportunity to ask questions, chat, and get to know each
other.
|
Morning Prayer (Common Worship)
This service follows the Common Worship
liturgy for Morning Prayer, and is more appropriate for adults. A Sunday
Club/Sunday School operates in both Burton and Holme during these
services
|
Holy Communion (ASB)
This service follows the Alternative
Service Book liturgy for Holy Communion, and is more appropriate for
adults. A Sunday Club/Sunday School operates in both Burton and Holme
during these services
|
Holy Communion (BCP)
This service follows the Book of Common
Prayer liturgy for Holy Communion, and is more appropriate for adults.
The BCP is the original 17th Century liturgy, and is therefore not
contemporary in its style. These services are 8:30 in the morning at
Burton.
|
Family Communion
This service uses contemporary liturgy
and is appropriate for all the family. There is no Sunday club/school
during these services because the church family are all together. Talks
and activities are geared towards children. Teas and coffees are
normally served after this service.
|
Family Service
This service uses either the CPAS
booklet or contemporary liturgy and is appropriate for all the family.
There is no Sunday club/school during these services because the church
family are all together. Talks and activities are geared towards both
children and adults. Teas and coffees are normally served after this
service.
|
Informal service in Burton Memorial
Hall
This service takes place one Sunday a month in the Memorial Hall in
Burton, and is more contemporary than most of those held in either of
the two churches in that there's no liturgy and there tends to be more
songs and choruses rather than hymns. It is appropriate for all the
family, and children stay in the service for the first half hour before
going out to the adjoining Sunday Club classes.
Teas and coffees are normally served after
this service.
|
Evening Prayer/Evening Praise
This service takes place each Sunday evening in the Atkinson Room at
St James'. Burton. The emphasis of this service is expository preaching.
This service is more appropriate for adults. Evening Praise is a less
formal service, but still with the emphasis on expository preaching
|
| Sunday
teaching for young people Teaching is provided to the young
people under senior school age in either the Burton Memorial Hall or the
upstairs room in Holme church at the same time each week other than on the
2nd Sunday in each month (these are family services and the church family
is together). Young people of school year 7 and above have their own
separate Sunday morning group (YO-YO's) in Burton, and for those in Year 9
and above have a Sunday evening bible study group. See below for more
details :
|
Sunday Club
The Sunday club meets in the Burton
Memorial Hall at 9:30 a.m. and at Holy Trinity at 11:00 on the 1st and
3rd Sundays each month. On the 2nd Sunday both churches have a Family
Service geared towards children, and on the 4th Sunday the Sunday Club
meets at the Burton Memorial Hall for the less formal Fellowship service
(see above for details). Where there's a 5th Sunday, both churches
combine for a family service at one of the church buildings.
